Intervention Angel During a crisis intervention the tension can be high and the desperation on the part of the person addicted and the family can be real and unrelenting. The person addicted has been arrested and is facing serious felony charges, they have overdosed and are in intensive care in the hospital, they have just had their children taken by a child protective service and are in the depths of depression, possibly suicidal. When this type situation exists, many families out of desperation try to quickly handle the dangerous situation by choosing the seemingly quickest and seemingly easiest route of getting the person help and launching what will become a failed attempt at sobriety for the person they love. The crisis intervention must first and foremost handle the immediate scene with sound constructive recovery planning but the crisis interventionist also knows there will be a tomorrow and the addiction will either get handled, effectively ending any possibility of future crisis of this kind, or, if not handled correctly guarantee that the situation will reoccur. It is our staff’s years of experience and depth of knowledge about the addiction, the recovery protocols available and scores of successful crisis interventions of the past that gives us an accelerated ability to asses the situation, formulate a correct plan of attack and follow through until the best possible outcome has been achieved. More often than not a crisis intervention will seek like the end of the world but it truly isn’t. Sometimes the situation is beyond help. If the person addicted passes away during a drug overdose then obviously intervention efforts are of no use. However, in the vast majority of cases this dire end is not necessary or impending, it just appears to be. Court cases can be won, non-fatal overdose can often be recovered from. The crisis intervention counselor will assess the scene, help the family arrive at both short term emergency coping efforts that lead to and include long term recovery plans and goals. There should always be a long ranging solution to prevent any possibility of future episodes of the present situation in the form of pre-admission into a drug and alcohol rehab facility when the current crisis has ceased, long term recovery methods of follow up after treatment etc. Once the emergency is gone the addiction will be left behind to drive home yet another emergency. Let our intervention counselors assist you right now, especially if you are facing a crisis intervention. A life depends on it. |
