When drug or alcohol is detected it is best to engage in an early intervention to stop a developing drug or alcohol problem before it escalates. It doesn’t matter if the intervention is performed when drug or alcohol use is first detected or if the process is undergone after you as a family member discover it is starting to get out of hand. Early intervention is better. When a person begins drug or alcohol use, they can start to become dependent on that same drug or alcohol quickly. This doesn’t occur in all cases but there are millions of people addicted in the United States alone and every one of them thought they would just use the drug or alcohol this once or on occasion and had no desire or reality that they would become addicted.

Further, with every usage and escalation of amount used the person increasingly places themselves at risk of hugely life changing occurrences such as overdose, arrest, imprisonment and death. An early intervention can halt the person’s addiction from proceeding to the next level and thereby prevent the potentially disastrous consequences from being experienced. Or not. It is usually up to those who love the person to arrange for an early intervention to occur and to make the decision that their loved one will not end up in the devastating grips of addiction further.

It is never too late or too early to intervene into a person’s life that has gone the route of drug or alcohol use. The evidence of how devastating this channel of behavior can be is all around us on a daily basis. A simple glance at the evening news or a look at the national drug and alcohol addiction organizations substance abuse statistics will help a person realize very quickly that many have been where you are.
