As if this wasn't enough, in the same recent study, Louisiana had 44,000 people between the ages of 12 and 17 who had likewise used illicit drugs during the same year period. These are teenagers who would normally be studying hard to try and get into college or discovering relationships and getting their first job etc. Instead, many of these 44,000 individuals are heading straight down the path of full blown addiction to drugs and alcohol. This may seem like an overstatement of sorts but the national averages of around 30 million people being addicted to drugs and/or alcohol shows that, with regards to Louisiana, these are in actual fact likely very conservative numbers.
