![]() Intervention Team A substance abuse intervention is most commonly performed in very non-formal settings with only select family members present. At least this is the case normally when the family first discover there is a problem. As all to many families have discovered, just meeting with the person addicted or threatening them with various consequences will not ensure that the person will suddenly have a realization and seek the help they truly need to leave their addiction behind. Substance abuse intervention is much more than just a meeting or idol threats. We will start this process, as always, with a phone consultation to assess the current scene, not only with the person addicted but with the family as well. Substance abuse interventions don’t just involve the person addicted. The whole family will need to play a some part in the process. This doesn’t mean that every family member must be present latter during the formal meeting with the person addicted but it might mean the sharing of information, agreeing with the families ultimate chosen course of action and helping to ensure nothing detracts from that and other potential duties. This consultation should result in a well organized set of plans and agendas to carry out the rest of the intervention. Prior to actually meeting with the person addicted, the interventionist will meet with the family members and others who will be involved to ensure that person understands their role in the intervention, as well as develop contingency plans to ensure success is achieved. With the planning stage done and all arrangements made and finalized it will be time then to meet with the person addicted and undergo what most people consider to be the intervention. . Because the situation will already be awkward and uncomfortable, our intervention specialists find that the individual’s house, or house of a close family member is often ideal. This will likely involve other family members or friends and their attendance must have been pre-arranged in the pre-intervention planning. After the intervention has taken place, Intervention Angel will continue to spend time with the chemically-dependent (assisting him/her in initial detox if necessary) and provide transportation to the recovery resource such as an addiction treatment center etc to ensure the person arrives safely and willing to change. Once the individual is safely into the facility of choice Intervention Angel will follow up with the person undergoing treatment as well as the family to assist the family to ensure the person continues with their treatment to completion. |
